SOMERVILLE, Mass.—May 14, 2009—Walleye™ Technologies will incorporate Renesas Technology Corp.'s advanced microcontroller technology into its next-generation, hand-held, portable imaging technology capable of "seeing" into and through solid objects. The Walleye Imaging System is a patent-pending technology platform that generates high-quality digital images that can be readily displayed, stored, analyzed, and transmitted. The Walleye Imaging System works like a digital "camera", but uses invisible wavelengths called millimeter waves to see into and through objects."The Renesas microcontroller technology provides the dynamic computational efficiency needed to generate the digital images produced by the camera's optical system," said David Holbrook, CTO of Walleye. Renesas Technology is the leading global supplier of microcontrollers. Walleye and Renesas will work together to bring the wall camera to market over the next twelve months. "Walleye's unique application required a microcontroller that was not only capable of capturing the image data and quickly executing a complex algorithm, but also of driving a TFT-LCD display in real time as the hand-held device moves across the wall, all on a low power budget. Our H8SX microcontroller measured up to all of these tasks", said Ali Sebt, executive vice president of the System LSI business unit of Renesas Technology America, Inc. The Walleye Imaging System has applications across a diversity of markets, including, consumer (home repair and construction), security and medical applications.
